Town of Carrizozo/Village of Capitan
Wednesday, January 5, 2005
The Village of Capitan Board of Trustees held a Joint Meeting with the
Town of Carrizozo on January 5, 2005 at the Village Hall Building.
Mayor Sederwall called the meeting to order at 7:00 pm. Trustees
present were George Tippin and Bobbi Shearer. Trustees absent were Bill
Martin and Ed Davis.
Reference to Capitan/Carrizozo Gas Compan : Mayor Sederwall said that
Village of Capitan feels that they have an obligation to the people of
Capitan to dissolve the Capitan/Carrizozo Gas Company. That Capitan
wants it to be a joint effect and not leave either Village or Town
without natural gas. The Village of Capitan wants the divorce to happen
quickly and not have another bill come out with the high rates.
Mayor Hernandez said he respected the Mayor thoughts and for what you
want to do is the benefit for your community, but he feels different
about it. We will turn it over to our attorney Dave Stevens let him be
the spokesman tonight and give you a run down on what we feel, what we
think and what we should do. If you want out, it can be done, but Just
like I told you before over the phone, this is just not something that
you can take and do over night. You have to go through all the
legalities and the attorney can explain it a more better than I can. If
you will let Dave Stevens conduct the meeting on behalf of the Town of
Carrizozo and the Gas Company.
After a lengthy discussion, the Town of Carrizozo wanted a Public
Meeting for both communities. A public meeting was set for January 20,
2005; Town of Carrizozo at 5:30 pm in Carrizozo and Village of Capitan
at 6:3 0 pm in Capitan. A joint meeting was set for January 25, 2005
6:30 pm in Carrizozo.
Motion by Trustee Shearer seconded by Trustee Tippin to adjourn at 8:24
pm. All in favor, motion carried.
