WHEREAS, Resolution 2001-07 documented that the Village of Capitan meets the criteria to be a colonia; and

WHEREAS, the Governing Body of the Village of Capitan, New Mexico, meeting in regular session on August 14, 2001, designated the community of Capitan as a colonia;

WHEREAS, the Village of Capitan has received a Community Development Block Grant to build a new senior citizens building; and

WHEREAS, the Village of Capitan has a wastewater treatment facility.  The sewer system does not serve the site for the new senior citizens building; and

WHEREAS, the Village of Capitan recognizes a need to extend the sewer line to the new building rather than install a septic system or use the existing one. The existing septic system is not working properly and has to be pumped out frequently. The new line would also serve several other dwellings in the area.

NOW THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, the governing body of the Village of Capitan requests funding through the Colonias Initiative Application to extend the sewer line to the new senior citizens building and other dwellings in the area.
