WHEREAS, the Village of Capitan held public hearings on July 15, 2008, July 22, 2008, and August 5, 2008 for input from the citizens of the Village of Capitan for a Community Development Block Grant project; and

WHEREAS, the result of the public hearings was to build a new senior citizens building; and

WHEREAS, the current senior citizens’ building is old, the walls are cracking, the floors are coming up, no insulation, and it leaks when it rains.  The building needs to have extensive work done to comply with ADA regulations; and

WHEREAS, the senior citizens organization provides meals for low income individuals, various assistance programs, and a place to socialize; and

WHEREAS, the Village of Capitan Trustees voted during the regular meeting of August 12, 2008 to approve the senior citizens building as the 2009 Community Development Block Grant project; and

WHEREAS, the Village of Capitan will submit an application for $500,000 for the 2009 Community Development Block Grant to assist the Village in building a new senior citizen building.

NOW THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED by the governing body of the Village of Capitan that the project selected, funding requested, and the effect on the community served meets the needs of the Village of Capitan as they pertain to the 2009 Community Development Block Grant program.
